BBDS1 FURUNO: The high-performance Black Box fishfinder

The seabed is made up of many different types of bottom that are often impossible to see. Yet we’d like to know what they are, so we can position ourselves on the best fishing spot or know where to drop anchor on a suitable bottom.

The BBDS1 from Furuno helps to identify the nature of the seabed by discriminating between 4 different types of seabed: Mud, Sand, Gravel and Rock.

The bottom analysis function is available in two formats: “Standard Mode” and “Probable Mode”.

Standard mode offers two displays:

• Display of the most likely type of background on a graphic strip: Mud, Sand, Gravel or Rock
• Display on a 4-color band.

The Probability Mode gives an indication of the reliability of the detection.

The BBDS1 from Furuno is a Black Box sounder module, i.e., delivered without a display. It connects to compatible indicators via the on-board Ethernet network. To date, NavNet TZT and NavNet3D indicators can display the nature of the seabed on 8″ and 12″ screens, or on an outdoor monitor of virtually unlimited size.
